Dr. Jami Taylor Spaw, DMD, an alumna of the Washington County High School Class of 2018, has become a dentist. After high school, Spaw attended Western Kentucky University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry in 2021. She then went on to attend dental school at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine earlier this year. “I love dentistry because it combines so many things that I love and am passionate about,” she says. “Since I was a child, I have loved the sciences and anything to do with medicine. Those who know me also know that I am talker and love interacting with people. I became a dentist because dentistry is the perfect outlet for me to combine the two of these. I love imparting confidence in my patients and giving them smiles they want to share with others.”
Spaw has begun her career as a dentist at The Smile Center in Campbellsville. She is certified in implant placement and provides other services including extractions, full mouth crowns, and veneers. She also regularly pursues continuing education to remain current with the latest advances in dentistry. “Thus far in my career, I have gotten to dip my foot into every aspect of dentistry that I love,” she said. “I have been able to do some esthetic cases, lots of extractions, attended an implant training course, and have been able to place a couple of implants. I can’t wait to continue providing esthetic and restorative services to patients. In the future, I’m hoping to extend my knowledge in facial esthetics and be able to provide patients with Botox and filler.
Looking back, Spaw says former WCHS FCS teacher Sarah Raikes and current WCHS FCS teacher Traci Blanford were helpful in her educational journey. “Mrs. Raikes and Mrs. Blanford were instrumental in making me the leader that I needed to be in order to make it to where I am today. They always encouraged me to go after whatever goal that I set for myself and reminded me that no dream was too small.”
Dr. Spaw is married to her husband Dillon Spaw, and has two mini Australian shepherds, Dixie and Ash.
