Spencer Sims, an alumnus of the Washington County High School Class of 2006, has opened his own business, Sims Diesel Technologies. After high school, Sims attended Nashville Auto Diesel, earning an associate degree in diesel technology in 2007. He started his career that year working as a technician for Diesel Injection Service in Louisville, Kentucky, later becoming service manager for the company. In 2011, he left that position to open Sims Diesel Technologies.
“As I grew in the diesel repair industry at Diesel Injection Service, I had noticed a lack of diesel truck, engine, fuel system and turbocharger repair in Central Kentucky,” says Sims. “During this time, we had just started our own farming operation, Sims Family Farms. Time is your most valuable asset in life and with commuting three hours total each day to Louisville, it was apparent that I needed to focus closer to home and open my own repair shop as well. We rented our first building in April of 2011 and opened our doors. Today, we operate with four full-time employees.”
Sims says retired WCHS teachers Tim Messer and Donna Remington were instrumental to him while in high school. “Mr. Messer always treated me so well as he did all of his students,” he says. “He was a wonderful teacher and leader that was not only an educator but a friend. He encouraged kids from all walks of life and worked hard personally with every student he taught. Ms. Remington was very strict but fair. She made sure were going to succeed in agriculture if that was our career choice. She helped many students over her years and has had several students who have had a very successful career in agriculture.”
Located in Lawrenceburg, Sims Diesel Technologies offers diesel only engine repair, fuel system, turbocharger repair, injection pump, injectors and turbo rebuild services for most agriculture applications as well as diesel trucks. Says Sims, “We would like to continue to grow our business as well as serve our long time customers. We are constantly working on new ventures as well as keeping up with new technology in the diesel industry.”
Sims is married to Jenna Smith Sims, and the couple has two daughters.
